Turkish Automotive Doubles Exports To USA

Turkish automotive sector accomplished exports to 180 countries and autonomous regions and 12 free zones in the 5 continents, according to Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters Association

In the first nine months this year, the sales of Turkish automotive industry to the USA market reached $967 million with 101.2 percent rise.

Being $480,8 million in the same period last year, this year the sector exports surged by $967 million to the USA in the first 9 months. In this period the US market raised from 10th to 6th line among the countries to which the sector export. According to the data compiled from the records of Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters Association (OIB), the Turkish automotive sector accomplished exports to 180 countries and autonomous regions and 12 free zones in the 5 continents.

Achieving the exports worth $20 billion 773 million in the first 9 months of 2017, the automotive sector shipped its exports worth $16 billion 140 million to the EU countries which are the biggest trade partner of Turkey.

Accounting for 77.7 percent of the total automotive exports, 27 members of the European Union have saved its weight in the total exports of the sector. As for 153 countries excluding the EU countries, the sector exports became $4 billion 632 million. The exports were not made to the side of Greek Cypriot.

Germany kept its leading market position

Germany ranked atop by far in the automotive sector exported goods worth $3 billion 237 million with 13.7 percent raise in the EU countries in the period of January-September 2017.

This country was followed by Italy with 21 percent increase to $2 billion 317 million, France with 19.75% up to $2 billion 113 million, the UK with 26.31% up to $2 billion 88 million, Spain with 26.32% up to $1 billion 237,5 million in the Turkish automotive industry exports in this period.

In this period, while 9 out of 10 countries were the EU countries the sector exported, only the USA became exemption in this category.

78 percent of every 100 percent of the export incomes from the EU

Orhan Sabuncu, Chairman of the OIB, in his statement said, the principal market of the Turkish automotive industry was the EU countries every time.

Indicating the share of the EU countries in the sector exports was 78 percent, he recorded; “$78 of every $100 of the sector export income comes from the EU countries. The EU countries comprised 9 out of 10 countries to which the sector accomplished exports most in the first 9 months this year. In this period, the sector exports to the EU countries boosted 20 percent to $16,1 billion.”

Sabuncu highlighted the sector exports to the USA market surged 101 percent to $967 million in this period taking place among top ten countries the sector exported most.
