A project called ‘Life-friendly Action’ which is a teacherrepresentative training seminar was organized by cooperation of the Directorate General for Basic Education, a subsidiary of Turkish Ministry of National Education; Turkish Ministry of Transportation, Maritime and Communication and TUVTURK.The number of 4400 teachers, 137 thousand students and parents and service bus drivers has been reached by training and messages with 5-year lasting project. This year 101 teacher-representatives from 11 provinces attended to the training seminar.By the end-year, a total of 916 teachers, 31 thousand students and 62 thousand parents are targeted to be educated via teacher-representatives. Having launched with a protocol signed in 2010 by the cooperation of Directorate General of Basic Education, a subsidiary of Turkish Ministry of National Education; Turkish Ministry of Transportation, Maritime and Communication and TUVTURK (Vehicle Inspection Stations), the Life-Friendly Action project aims to forge education in traffic safety and make up awareness in the individual responsibility for students.In this scope, primarily the teachers in the elementary schools’ 4th classes attend to the training seminar in traffic issue. The participant teachers would transfer the training program to the other 4th class teachers in their own schools following their education. The teachers – who benefit from supportive materials and sources peculiar to the project – as they educate students and parents, they also realize communication works directed towards service bus drivers.
Across Turkey, the number of 4,400 teachers at 491 schools from 45 provinces was educated to date, through this education period; the first one was in 2010-2011. By the teachers the number of over 274 thousand parents and 7,500 service bus drivers were educated as well.The teacher-representative training seminar of the project for the education year 2015-2016 that contributes greatly to the children in the elementary school to get positive manner and attitude was held on 8-10th September 2015 in Istanbul. At the seminar, the issues such as danger and risks in traffic, responsibilities for owners of vehicle, protecting from accidents, importance of safety belt was given to 101 teachers from the provinces of Ankara, Bursa, Canakkale, Denizli, Elazig, Hatay,Istanbul, Izmir, Tokat and Zonguldak. Also recommendations were shared in order to make more efficient of traffic lessons and interactive implementations were carried out. With these trainings that are aimed to reach by 916 teachers, 31 thousand students, 62 thousand parents and 500 service bus drivers via teacher-representatives in the education season of 2015-2016. In his speech at the seminar, Cemal Tinkilic, the representative from R & D and Projects Office of General Directorate of Basic Education of the Ministry of National Education, highlighted that safety behaviors which are earned in early ages were very crucial to learn traffic culture, so Life-Friendly Action project contributed to that behaviors.
