Tire Market Grows 9.4% In 2015

In 2015, the Turkish tire market grew 9.4 percent over the rate of the country growth, Yigit Gurcay, Chairman of the Board of Tire Industrialists Association (LASID), said. A total of 22,1 million tires were sold, the growth got acceleration with the sales of winter tires. The association assessed the sector by holding news conference at Shangri-La Bosphorus. At the meeting which was opened by Bahadir Unsal, secretary general of LASID, the chairman Yigit Gurcay briefed the last year of the sector by saying; “Along with 9.4 percent growth in 2015, the number of 22,1 million tires were sold. The growth appeared in all tire groups. However, we can say increase in use of winter tires has been significantly effective in the total sales. Use of winter tires is over 30 percent as of the year 2015.” As for the upgrading predictions for 2016, Gurcay said, “The tire sector grew 52.4 percent in 2015 compared to the year 2009. In 2016, we foresee a growth similar in 2015. In the 2020s the growth is expected to be over 30 percent.”
