Türkiye’s used car market expands nearly 7 percent in first quarter

Türkiye’s used car sales increased by 6.7% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period of the previous year, according to data published by VavaCars.

Transactions rose from 1.63 million units in the first quarter of 2025 to 1.74 million units during the same period in 2026.

However, compared with the fourth quarter of 2025, when sales reached 2.07 million units, the market contracted by 16.3%.

In contrast, new car sales declined significantly.

Sales of new vehicles fell from 265,002 units in the first quarter of 2025 to 222,022 units in the first quarter of 2026, representing a 16% year-over-year decline and a 32% decrease compared with the previous quarter.

Analysts attributed the changing market conditions to regional geopolitical developments, oil price fluctuations, and volatility in investment markets, all of which influenced consumer purchasing behavior.

Serdıl Gözelekli, Commercial Group President at VavaCars, stated that despite the quarterly slowdown, annual growth in used vehicle sales reflects the market’s resilient demand.

He emphasized that used cars remain a more affordable and accessible option for consumers, particularly during periods of limited access to financing and credit.

According to first-quarter data, approximately eight used cars were sold for every one new vehicle in Türkiye.
