Third Airport To Be Operable In February 2018

Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communication Binali Yildirim in his speech at the editors’ desk of Anatolian News Agency briefed about third suspension bridge and third airport of which construction activities are being continued. Minister Yildirim said the third suspension bridge which is being installed on Bosporus would be completed in May this year. However connection roads and intersections would be completed by August, he said. “In aviation sector we have experienced an improvement which would make upside down of the world statistics since 2003 onwards. At that time Turkish aviation share was 0.45 percent, now the rate has risen by 2 percent. We have written a successful story of aviation in the world,” Yildirim said.

Third airport
Related with the third airports of which construction is being continuing, Minister Yidirim said; “Nearly an expenditure worth 10 billion 247 million euro will be spend, once all of these stages are completed, the first section of the airport would have been opened in February 2018. So, the troubles experienced at Yeşilkoy Airport will be entirely removed. When we commission the new airport into operation then charter carrying will not happen.”Claiming a 150-million passenger annual capacity, the airport is expected to become one of the biggest in the world and the biggest air transfer hub in Europe. The airport will also act as a focal point for Turkey’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines, which is one of the fastest growing airline companies in the world, flying currently to over more than 200 international destinations. The Cengiz-Kolin-Limak-Mapa-Kalyon consortium, a joint venture of Turkish companies, won the tender to build the third airport in Istanbul in 2013

Third suspension bridge
About third suspension bridge, Minister Yildirim said, “Overall finish of the bridge will occur in May, will be completed with everything like road coating, lighting. But, we want to open the suspension bridge along with connection roads, intersections. Hence it would be ready for service completely in August this year.”

Channel Istanbul
Minister Yildirim also informed about Channel Istanbul project, he said studies were continuing on 5 routes and it would be clear in the second half this year. The Cengiz-Kolin-Limak-Mapa-Kalyon consortium, a joint venture of Turkish companies, won the tender of the project to build the third airport in Istanbul in 2013.
