Imported Automobiles Accounted For 70%

In the Turkish domestic market, as the total of automobile and light commercial vehicles constituted 64.4 percent in terms of imported vehicles, this rate in the imported automobile is 70 percent, according to the statement from the Turkish Automobile Distributors Association (ODD)

Last year, 70 units out of every 100 automobiles sold in the Turkish domestic market were the imported ones. Reaching the biggest third figure of its history, the number of 340,306 units were the domestic made, 615,888 units imported vehicles were sold in the domestic market in 2017, according to the statement from the Turkish Automobile Distributors Association (ODD).

As 64.4 percent of the sales were imported automobiles and light commercial vehicles, the domestic made vehicles accounted for 35.6 percent in the Turkish total domestic market in 2017. As for the automobile domestic market in 2016 was 74.6 percent, the percentage plunged by 70 percent in this segment.

In 2016, the imported vehicle share was 68.4 percent in the total domestic market. In the sales of light commercial vehicles, the share of domestic made vehicles was 52.9 percent; imported ones were 47.1 percent in 2017 in this segment.

Fiat topping in the sales of domestic made vehicles

Accomplishing the sales number of 120,049 in the total domestic market, of these 111,310 accounting for 93 percent were the vehicles which were manufactured in Turkey, Fiat ranked atop in the domestic made vehicle sales.

While Renault became second in the sales of domestic made vehicles with 76,433 units, Ford ranked third with 73,205 units, Toyota fourth with 33,361 units; Hyundai fifth with 22,440 units and Honda sixth with 19,171 units respectively in 2017. In light commercial vehicle domestic market, Isuzu sold 2,376 units and Karsan 1,573 units last year.

6 out of 10 automobiles with automatic transmission

The sales of automatic transmission vehicles increased 0.8 percent to 437,488 units in 2017 over previous year. The share of automatic transmission automobiles rose from 57.3 to 60.5 percent in 2017.

The sales of automatic transmission automobiles were 228,539 in C segment; 96,118 in B segment; 84,016 in D segment; 22,694 in E segment; 4,270 in F segment, 1,851 in A segment respectively. D segment constituted 85.5 percent, A segment 80.5 percent, C segment 60.5 percent, B segment 44.2 percent; the sales of entire E and F segments were automatic transmission in the Turkish domestic market in 2017.
