Automotive Market Shrinks 11% In March

1Almost half of the sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles happened in March in the first quarter this year.

The Turkish automotive domestic market shrank 11 percent in March 2017 compared with the same month previous year. Although traditionally getting acceleration in March, the sales of automobile and light commercial vehicle constricted 11 percent to the number of 73 thousand 802 units in March this year, as for the reduction in the first quarter became 7.4 percent. The automotive sales in the first quarter became 156,090 units, according to the announcement from Turkish Automotive Distributors Association (ODD) in the first three months this year. When looked at breaking down of automobile and light commercial vehicle, the sales in the automotive market fell by 55,616 units reducing 13.1 percent in March 2017. The reduction in light commercial vehicles was in the rate of 4.2 percent to 18,186 units in March. In the first quarter this year, the sales in the automobile market decreased 9.4 percent to 115,963 units, as for the sales of light commercial vehicles decreased 1.1 percent to 40,127 units in the domestic market. Almost half of the sales in the first quarter happened in March 2017. At the beginning of this year, Mustafa Bayraktar, Chairman of ODD, stated the sales of automobile and light commercial vehicles would be 875 thousand units constricting 11 percent in 2017 over the last year.
