The Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) posted the sector production units accomplished in 2017. According to the statement, the total automotive production raised 13 percent, automobile production 18 percent in 2017 over the previous year. Together with tractor production the total automotive production reached by 1 million 727 thousand 505 units in 2017. The commercial vehicle group raised its production 3 percent, light commercial vehicle group 2 percent, heavy duty commercial vehicles 23 percent respectively last year.
80 percent of the automotive production exported
In 2017, the unit-base total Turkish automotive exports surged 17 percent; the automobile exports 24 percent. In this period, the total exports became 1 million 333 thousand units, the automobile exports 921 thousand units. Thus the Turkish automotive industry exported 80 percent of the total production in 2017. As value the total exports increased 20 percent to $29 billion, as for euro-base, the exports became 25,7 billion. The Turkish automobile exports increased 41 percent to $11,8 billion. Euro-base exports increased 39 percent to 10,5 billion.
Domestic made sales increased
The total domestic market constricted 3 percent to 980 thousand 277 units. The automobile market plunged 5 percent to 722,759 units last year. In 2017, as commercial vehicle market and light commercial vehicle market upped 3 percent, the heavy duty vehicle market kept its rate over the previous year. The imported automobile market share accounted for 70 percent in 2017. The sales of the total automobiles decreased 5%, imported automobiles 10%; but the sales of domestic made automobiles increased 13 percent regarding new automobile projects entered into force.
