Turkish automotive industry has ranked atop in the sector exports to European Union leaving behind the countries such as Japan, South Korea and the USA, Alper Kanca, head of the Turkish Association of Automotive Parts and Components Manufacturers

Turkish automotive industry has ranked atop in the sector exports to European Union leaving behind the countries such as Japan, South Korea and the USA; in the imports the sector ranked second following the USA, according to the statement of Alper Kanca, head of the Turkish Association of Automotive Parts and Components Manufacturers (TAYSAD).

Indicating they would guess the automotive sector to achieve the exports worth over $27 billion in 2017, Kanca said; “As for our supplier industry exports might reach $10 billion by year-end. These figures are the rates that we could not see and pronounce before.”

Highlighting Turkish automotive industry has been atop in the motor vehicle exports to the EU, he said the EU countries imported vehicles the number of 3,4 million units worth 45,7 billion euro in 2016.

Kanca added; “In these figures the Turkish automotive industry ranked atop by leaving behind the countries such as Japan, South Korea and the USA in 2016. Also last year, the European Countries exported over 6,3 million vehicles worth 135 billion euro in 2016. The Turkish market has also showed how a big market ranking second following the USA in the imports last year.”

“Production and export continue to boost”

Reminding the export figures in September 2017 for the automotive sector were pleasing, Kanca said the sector exports became worth $21,1 billion with 22 percent rise by the end of September. As for the Turkish supplier industry exports were $7,2 billion by the end of September. The automotive sector became export champion for the 11 consecutive years. Also the automotive sector boosted the production figures 18 percent to 1,2 million units as of the end of Sept.

“Iraq is our biggest trade partner”

Indicating political uncertainty which has been in North Iraq would not prevent the trade with Iraq, he said there was a border gateway in Nusaybin town as an alternative to the border gateway in Habur.

Stressing Iraq was one of the biggest trade partners of Turkey, Kanca recorded; “According to the data in 2016 of TurkStat, Iraq ranked third in the exports following Germany and the UK. Last year our exports to Iraq were $7,6 billion.”

Alper Kanca also said Turkey and Germany had a great trade in the past primarily the automotive sector. In Turkey, 60 thousand people work at 6 thousand German companies. The Turkish supplier industry mostly exports parts and components to Germany, as for the German auto industry exports vehicles to Turkey. So the two countries are the indispensable markets for each other.

Stating they would consider the German government would not apply any sanction to the automotive sector, Kanca said; “There is no such condition to require such a radical application as well. As the Turkish automotive industry we have long-term agreements with our customers.”
