Toyota’s New Crossover To Be Manufactured In Turkey

The new crossover model in C-HR concept will roll off the production line by the end of 2016. The vehicle will be also first crossover and first hybrid vehicle to be manufactured in Turkey. Together with the new model the capacity utilization of the plant in Turkey will raise from 150 thousand to 280 thousand units per annum. Along with existence models Corolla and Verso models, together with the new model 90% of the vehicles to be exported mostly to the European countries. The concept vehicle was displayed at Frankfurt Automotive Fair last September. Toyota Automotive Industry Turkey will also realize another success as the first manufacturing facility out of Japan in Toyota’s new global platform. The investment amount for this third model is $450 million, so the total investment amount of the company will have raised by $2,3 billion. Together with the new investment, an addition over 1000 employees will be employed as well. The production of the new model will be carried out at the same line along with Corolla and Verso models. In his speech at the news conference Dr. Johan van Zyl, Chairman of Toyota Motor Europe, said; “I am proud on behalf of Toyota Automotive Industry Turkey’s employees and supplier industrialists regarding our new vehicle to be manufactured in Turkey that has a very importance in Toyota’s product group. This decision verifies that Toyota Automotive Industry Turkey is one of the best plants across the world in terms of quality and efficiency. The capacity utilization of our plant in Sakarya province will raise from 150 thousand to 280 thousand units per annum. This increase is a result of Toyota Automotive Industry Turkey’s importance and expected popularity of the new vehicle.” As for Hiroshi Kato, CEO and Director General of Toyota Automotive Industry Turkey, said; “We are very happy due to manufacturing the third model at our plant in Sakarya. The decision to manufacture a new crossover of Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) is a proof of high productivity and high quality level that our plant has reached. This decision is also a respond to confidence in all of our employees and our efforts that we perform to manufacture supper quality vehicles. Our new model will be also proud of our staffs, supplier industry in both Turkey and Europe and basically source of Turkey’s proud. This proud will encourage us more in terms of future’s successes. Working with our all energies we will maintain our competition, continue to contribute to Sakarya and Turkey’s economy.” Having established in 1990 as a second production facility of Toyota in Europe, Toyota Automotive Industry Turkey launched its series production with the 7th generation Corolla in 1994. Since 2002 onwards, the company exports some 80 percent of the manufactured vehicles to Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asian markets. Having manufactured the number of 1,7 million vehicles to date, Toyota Turkey sustains its operations with nearly 3000 employees.
