Domestic Automotive Market Expands 10.5% In October

Turkey’s automobile and light commercial vehicle domestic market performed 10.5 percent growth to the number of 91 thousand 752 units in October 2017 compared to the same month previous year

Turkey’s automobile and light commercial vehicle domestic market performed 10.5 percent growth to the number of 91 thousand 752 units in October 2017 compared to the same month last year, according to the Turkish Automotive Distributors Association (ODD). Last year in October, 83 thousand vehicles were sold in the domestic market.

In October 2017, the sales of automobiles were 70,488 units with 10.58 percent rise, last year the sales of automobiles were 63,746 units.

As for the light commercial vehicle, the sales increased 10.44 percent to 21,264 units which were 19,254 units in 2016.

However, in the first ten months the total sales of automobile in the domestic market constricted slightly in the rate of 0.06 percent to 719,095 units which were 719,499 units in the same period last year.

In terms of the engine volume the automotive sales decreased 1.2 percent under 1600cc engine, 2.1 percent between 1600-2000cc engine and 49.3 percent in over 2000cc engine respectively as of the end of October 2017. In this period, 49 electric and 3,252 hybrid automobiles were sold in the domestic market.

As for the emission rates, the automobiles having emission rate in 100-120 gr/km ranked the highest share with 42.7 percent to 233,360 units.

In the first ten months this year, the rate of diesel-powered automobiles decreased by 61 percent, automatic transmission automobiles surged by 59.5 percent.

According to the statement from Hayri Erce, General Coordinator of the ODD, the automotive sector domestic market expectation would be between 950-1 million units in 2018.
