Turkey’s domestic automobile market achieved growth in the rate of 3.59 percent in January; as for the total automotive domestic market guessed to be between 925-975 thousand units in 2018
The sales of automobiles accomplished growth in the rate of 3.59 percent to 26,611 units in January 2018 over the same month last year.
According to the statement posted from Turkish Automotive Distributors Association (ODD), the total sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles accomplished the number of 35,076 units in the first month of 2018. The sales of automobile and light commercial vehicles slightly decreased in the rate of 0.7 percent over the same month last year that was 35,323 units. The sales of automobile and light commercial vehicles performed 10.82 percent increase in terms of the sales of 10-year on average as of January month.
As the sales of automobiles increased 3.59 percent to 26,611, the sales of light commercial vehicles decreased 12.12 percent to 8,465 units in January 2018 compared to the same month previous year.
Sales of automobiles over 2000cc plunged 21.1 percent
As 1.7 percent increase seen in the sales of automobiles under 1600cc and 19.1 percent in automobiles with engines between 1600-2000cc; in the sales of automobiles over 2000cc decreased 21.1 percent in January 2008.
In January 2018, 9 electric vehicles and 518 hybrid automobiles were sold in the domestic market. As for the emission values, the automobiles with the number of 10,378 units emitting 100-120 gr/km had the highest share with 39 percent in the domestic market.
While share of diesel automobiles decreased by 56.83 percent, as for automatic transmission automobiles’ share raised by 67.28 percent in January 2018.

Dr. Hayri Erce, General Coordinator of the ODD, announced; “Developments in the USA in 2018, normalization process of FED monetary policy, interest rate rise expectation in line with recovery in economy, growth in the European Union economy and monetary policy of European Central Bank (ECB), the impact of Brexit on the EU and other countries, slowing in the Chinese economy and its impact in the developing countries, geopolitical developments, Turkey’s Central Bank monetary policy and determination in fighting against inflation, situation of current account deficit, steps to be taken in structural reforms, development of economic activity and growth speed will play effective role in the domestic market. The total sales of the domestic automotive market are guessed to be between 925-975 thousand units in 2018.”
