Diesel-powered automobiles surged 16.1 amounting to 3 million 345 thousand 951 units in Turkey as of the end of 2015. Interest of automobile users in diesel-powered cars is increasing in the recent period. The number of diesel automobiles has exceeded the limit of 3 million with addition of 463 thousand 66 new diesel-powered vehicle registration last year. The rate of diesel-powered automobiles was 6.8 percent in the total in 2005; this rate has risen by 31.6 percent in 2015. As of the end of 2015, the number of 19 million 994 thousand 472 registered vehicles have been in the traffic in total in Turkey, according to the data compiled from Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). Fuel costs play a determinative role in the purchasing preference of those want to possess automobile. In line with this, interest in diesel-powered automobiles is increasing in recent years in Turkey. The demand to diesel-powered automobiles has reduced the total share of gasoline-powered and LPG-powered automobiles in total. The gasoline-powered automobile share was 29 percent in 2014; this rate plunged to 27.6 percent in 2015. In this period, the rate of LPG-powered automobiles dropped 41.4 percent to 40.3 percent. On the contrary, while the share of diesel-powered automobiles was 29.2 percent in 2014, last year, the rate raised by 31.6 percent. Last year mostly white color was preferred in purchasing new vehicles. The number of 471,759 automobiles were white, 111,054 cars gray, 68,112 units were black, 25 thousand 867 units were blue of the registered total of 746,395 automobiles last year.
