Azerbaijan Prepares For Formula 1 Race

formulaThe first ever Formula 1 race to be held in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan on 17-19 June 2016, the race to promote the country regarding being broadcasted in 187 countries.

Prior to Formula 1 race, which will be hosted by Azerbaijan first time, preparation is continuing as landscape planning and renewing asphalt of the roads, in addition to “Pit Stop” area construction at the Azadliq Square. Nigar Arpadarai, Communication and Marketing Consultant of Baku City Circuit of The Azerbaijani organizer of Formula 1, said the works were continuing in line with the plan without any disruption. The asphalting works are carried out complying with the international standards. As of the end of May, the barrier and tribune works will be started. At the race, the number of 5000 voluntaries and 1300 runway attendants will be assigned. Arpadarai highlighted that thanks to the race the country would be promoted, adding Formula 1 race would secure lots of thing to Azerbaijan. “The race is broadcasted in 187 countries and watched by the number of 500 million people per annum. Formula 1 has a great number of audiences,” she noted. Azerbaijan – has been moved forward by one hour to 5 pm as a result of the Azerbaijani government’s decision to scrap Daylight Saving Time (DST) from this year onwards. This time change was approved by FOM and was directly linked to the fact that the abolishment of DST meant that the original start time of 6 pm would have seen the race taking place too close to the 8.14 pm time of sunset in the Azerbaijani capital. This change in start time, however, will not apply to audiences in countries where the clocks have changed – meaning the official race start will still be 3pm CET for example – and crucially will avoid any clash with the 24 Hour Le Mans, which will be finishing at that time.
